Georgetown, California, has four schools in Black Oak Mine Unified: two elementary schools, a high school and an alternative school, serving grades K–5, K–6, 9–12 and K–12. Among the two schools with reported all-grades test results, proficiency is below state levels in English language arts (ELA), math and science; the two-school averages are 34% in ELA, 28% in math and 24% in science, compared with state results of 49%, 38% and 36%. The clearest bright spot is Georgetown Elementary’s sixth grade, which is above the state in both ELA and math.
American River Charter leads the reported all-grades ELA and science results, at 35% in each, while Georgetown Elementary leads in math, at 33% compared with American River’s 22%. American River stands out for attendance and graduation: chronic absenteeism is 2%, compared with 18% statewide, and its graduation rate is 96%, versus 88% statewide. Absenteeism is 38% at Otter Creek Elementary and 92% at Divide High; proficiency results for those two schools are suppressed, so they cannot be ranked on test results.
Recent results show math improving modestly, but no broad progress toward the state: the two-school math average rose from 25% to 28% between 2024–25 and 2025–26, while ELA fell from 39% to 34% and science from 44% to 24%. Georgetown’s science result dropped from 50% to 13%, while its math result rose from 29% to 33%. SchoolDigger reports Georgetown’s percentile ranking moved from 24 to 50 and then 37 over those three years. As context, in 2024–25, 52% of Georgetown students and 38% of American River students were free/reduced lunch eligible; their student–teacher ratios were 15.0 and 29.5, respectively.
