Fillmore Senior stands out as the stronger school in the reported results: its proficiency was 50% in ELA, 6% in math and 20% in science, compared with 8%, 3% and 5% at Sierra High. The school-to-school gaps were 43 percentage points in ELA, 4 in math and 15 in science. Sierra’s smaller size and lower student-teacher ratio—12.8 students per teacher, versus 21.5 at Fillmore Senior—did not coincide with higher scores in this comparison.
