Summary

Ironwood Elementary School in Phoenix enrolls 434 students in prekindergarten through sixth grade and is part of the Washington Elementary School District. Its 2025–26 results are mixed: all-grades math matches the state rate, while ELA trails both the state and the nearby same-district average. The most important finding is the sharp difference by grade: third grade is a standout, but ELA in grades 4–6 and fourth-grade math are weak compared with nearby district schools.

Third grade is Ironwood’s clearest academic bright spot: 44% were proficient in ELA and 53% in math, the highest results among nearby same-district schools reporting those grades. By contrast, fourth-grade math was 29%, below every nearby district school reporting a score (30%–55%), and fifth-grade ELA was 25%, the lowest among those schools (27%–45%). Overall, ELA proficiency was 32%—9 percentage points below the state, 2 above the district, and 3 below the nearby district-school average. Math was 33%, equal to the state, 8 points above the district, and 2 above the nearby average. Fifth-grade science is another strength: Ironwood’s 36% in 2024–25 was 11 points above the district and 2 above the state; it was tied for second-highest among nearby district schools with results.

Ironwood’s SchoolDigger standing has declined overall: it went from the 57th statewide percentile and 3 stars in 2022–23 to the 35th percentile and 2 stars in 2025–26, after a brief rise from 42 to 45. SchoolDigger also ranked Ironwood at the 2nd percentile for special education students in 2022–23, compared with the school’s overall 57th percentile that year—a notably weaker relative standing for this group. In contrast, Hispanic students ranked at the 50th percentile in 2025–26, above the school’s overall 35th. Ironwood’s 2024–25 student–teacher ratio was 15.6, around the middle of nearby district schools; its free/reduced-lunch rate was 66% in 2022–23, with no comparable nearby rates provided. ELA and math results are available for only one year, so changes over time cannot be assessed.
