Summary

Coronado Elementary School serves 404 students in grades K–8 in Sierra Vista and is part of Palominas Elementary School District 49. In 2025–2026, 32% of students were proficient in English Language Arts (ELA) and 23% in math. The clearest concern is that both all-grades results were below state levels: ELA was 9 percentage points lower and math was 10 points lower.

Coronado’s results look stronger against its district than against the state or nearby K–8 schools. Its 23% math proficiency matched the district, while ELA was just below it at 32% versus 33%. Eighth-grade math is a standout: 42% proficiency was 12 points above the state and 10 points above the district; Joyce Clark Middle School had 20% in that grade. But grade 6 and 7 ELA were weaker, at 26% and 32%—15 and 11 points below state results. Among nearby K–8 schools, Coronado had the lowest all-grades ELA result: 32% compared with a peer average of 42%. Its 23% math result was second-lowest among those schools and 5 points below their 28% average.

Science proficiency declined in both tested grades: grade 5 fell from 45% in 2022–2023 to 31% in 2024–2025, while grade 8 dropped from 40% to 29%. SchoolDigger’s statewide ranking also fell, from the 82nd percentile in 2015–2016 to the 32nd percentile and 2 stars in 2025–2026. Coronado’s 2024–2025 student–teacher ratio was 15.8, below the nearby-school average of about 17; its reported free/reduced-lunch rate was 40% in 2022–2023. SchoolDigger’s subgroup rankings show marked differences: in 2022–2023, its measure of how well the school served Multi-racial students was at the 1st percentile, compared with the school’s overall 57th percentile. For English Language Learner students, the measure was at the 95th percentile in 2020–2021, compared with 69th overall.
