Summary

Glendale American School is a Glendale, Arizona, public school serving prekindergarten through eighth grade, with 678 students in the Glendale Elementary District. In 2025–26, 27% of students were proficient in English language arts (ELA) and 20% in math, both below Arizona’s statewide rates of 41% and 33%. The most important takeaway is that neither all-grades result stands out as a strength: both are below the state, and math is also below the district.

Results vary by subject and grade, with eighth-grade ELA the clearest bright spot and fifth-grade math a concern. Eighth-grade ELA proficiency was 34%, above the district’s 29% and the third-highest among nearby schools reporting that grade, though still below the state’s 39%. Fifth-grade math was 21%, below the district’s 26% and the state’s 38%, and third-lowest among nearby schools with results. Across all grades, ELA was 27%, matching the district but below the nearby-school average of 30%; math was 20%, below the district’s 23% and the nearby average of 23%. Fourth-grade math was a relative strength at 30%, 2 points above the district, but 10 points below the state.

Some results are improving, but the overall picture remains mixed. Eighth-grade science rose from 17% in 2022–23 to 22% in 2024–25, while fifth-grade science fell from 20% to 18%; the latest fifth-grade result was 16 points below the state. SchoolDigger ranked the school 764th of 900 in 2025–26, at the 15th percentile with 1 star; its percentile rose 7 points from the prior year but remains below earlier standings, including 31 in 2017–18. The student–teacher ratio was 18.5 in 2024–25, higher than the nearby-school average of 17, and the reported free/reduced-lunch rate was 69% in 2022–23. SchoolDigger’s group rankings also differed notably: its 2022–23 measure of how well the school serves Asian Students was at the 66th percentile, versus the school’s overall 24th percentile; for Special Education Students, it was at the 3rd percentile.

Open Quote My child went to this school for a half of the year. My child was also bullied and only one teacher seemed to do anything to assist and was very helpful. I would have taken my child out sooner if not for the efforts of this teacher. I was told other teachers my child was part of the problem yet when I asked nothing was provided to show me. The other student had a history of behavior issues according to several other parents and students. I finally took my child out of this school. At parent teacher conferences I was given a report card but not shown any work my child completed showing me any issues. It was the first time I heard there were academic issues. The communication was terrible even after I asked to be updated. Close Quote
