Summary

Desert Star Academy is an alternative school in Fort Mohave serving 686 students in grades K–11. Its latest results show a clear difference by subject: 47% of students were proficient in English language arts (ELA), compared with 41% statewide, while 24% were proficient in math, compared with 33% statewide. The most important takeaway is that ELA is a relative strength, but math proficiency is notably below the state rate.

Compared with the state, ELA proficiency was 6 percentage points higher overall, while math was 9 points lower. They allow sexual abuse and bullying on their premises. They have a history of saying children are at the school when they are absent, allowing children too young to be admitted into the school, leaving children unattended in classrooms and outside for long periods of time (which is illegal). Not happy with grading system.Our 2 grade kid went from honor roll to fail in 3 weeks. A substitute teacher was sent in when they let their teacher go 3 weeks before school ended. Then neglected to tell us of the drastically different scholastic changes to my son. How cab a child go from honors every semester to fail in 3 weeks? Close Quote
