Summary

BASIS Mesa is an alternative K–12 school in Mesa, Arizona, with 894 students. In 2025–26, its all-grades proficiency was 79% in English language arts (ELA) and 70% in math, compared with Arizona’s 41% and 33%, respectively. Its standout result is in science: 94% of 11th graders were proficient in 2024–25, 75 percentage points above the state rate.

Compared with nearby schools, BASIS led the group in all-grades ELA and ranked second in math, behind Heritage Academy Gateway, which scored 73% in math. BASIS’s ELA and math results were also well above the nearby-school averages of 40% and 29%. Grade 8 was especially strong: BASIS scored 86% in both ELA and math, exceeding the best nearby results by 23 and 18 points. Younger-grade math is a relative weak spot against local peers: BASIS scored 66% in grade 3 and 54% in grade 4, below nearby highs of 77% and 75%, though both results remained above the state. The school’s reported AASA and science results match those of the BASIS Charter Schools Inc. district.

Science remains a major strength, but scores have slipped: grade-8 proficiency fell from 83% in 2022–23 to 72% in 2024–25, while grade 11 eased from 98% to 94%; the grade-8 advantage over the state narrowed by 14 points. The available ELA and math results cover only 2025–26, so they do not show a trend. BASIS’s enrollment is close to the nearby-school average of 934, and its student-teacher ratio is 15.4—lower than the reported ratios at Legacy Traditional School - Queen Creek and Heritage, but higher than those at American Leadership Academy Gilbert North K-12 and American Leadership Academy of Applied Technologies.
