Summary

Imagine East Mesa Elementary serves 611 students in kindergarten through sixth grade in Mesa, Arizona. In 2025–26, 28% of students were proficient in English language arts (ELA) and 26% in math; the figures for the East Mesa Charter Elementary School Inc. district were identical. Both subjects were below state averages and nearby-school averages: ELA was 13 percentage points below the state and 15 points below the nearby average, while math was 7 and 9 points lower, respectively. The most important takeaway is that overall proficiency trails both the state and most nearby schools.

Math is the stronger of the two subjects relative to those comparisons, but neither is a standout locally: Imagine’s 26% proficiency was above just two of the ten nearby schools, while its 28% in ELA was above only one. Results vary considerably by grade. Sixth grade was a relative bright spot, with 43% proficient in ELA and 31% in math—slightly above state results in both. In contrast, third-grade math was 24%, below all nine nearby schools with reported results and their 49% average; fifth-grade ELA was 17%, the lowest among eight nearby schools with reported results.

Fifth-grade science is the clearest improving test-score trend: proficiency rose from 31% in 2022–23 to 35% in 2024–25, moving from below the state result to slightly above it. Meanwhile, SchoolDigger gives Imagine an overall rank at the 22nd percentile and one star for 2025–26, down 14 percentile points from each of the prior two years. SchoolDigger’s statewide measure of how well the school serves Hispanic students placed it at the 51st percentile in 2025–26, compared with the school’s overall 22nd percentile. For White students, the measure was at the 2nd percentile in 2024–25, versus the school’s overall 36th percentile. Imagine’s 2024–25 student–teacher ratio was 24.4, the highest reported among nearby schools and above their 16.8 average; these comparisons describe the school’s context but do not show that the ratio explains its results.
