Sunnyside Unified District includes 21 schools serving elementary, middle and high school students, from early learning through grade 12. Across 19 schools with reported all-grades results, average proficiency was 23% in English language arts (ELA) and 15% in math, compared with state rates of 41% and 33%; SchoolDigger rates the district 0 stars and places it in the 7th percentile statewide. The most important finding for families is that results vary widely by school, but most reported rates are well below state levels.
Gallego Primary Fine Arts Magnet leads all-grades ELA at 47% and is also strong in math at 42%; Elvira Elementary School leads math among schools serving multiple elementary grades at 45%, with 43% in ELA. These are the only two schools above state rates in both subjects. Gallego Intermediate Fine Arts Magnet School is another bright spot, at 38% ELA and 25% math—above district figures in both. At the low end, Summit View Elementary has the lowest ELA rate, 14%, while Billy Lane Lauffer Middle School has the lowest math rate, 4%; Challenger Middle School is also low in math at 6%. Gallego Primary serves only K–3, so its overall rates are not a direct match for schools serving older grades.

Staffing ratios do not form a clear achievement pattern: Mission Manor’s ratio is 12.9 students per teacher, yet its ELA and math rates are both 16%; Elvira’s ratio is 20, with higher results. Graduation is another important difference: Sunnyside High School and Desert View High School graduate 89% and 88% of students, respectively, above the 80% state rate, while STAR Academic High School has a 32% graduation rate and a 14% dropout rate.
