Pima Unified District

Pima Unified District includes four schools—one elementary school, one junior high, and two high schools—serving students from elementary through high school. Across the three schools with reported 2025–26 results, all-grades ELA averaged 32% compared with 41% statewide, while math averaged 27% compared with 33% statewide. The most important area-wide finding is that ELA is farther below the state benchmark than math, and results vary considerably by grade.

Pima Junior High School leads the reported all-grades ELA results at 34%, followed by Pima High School at 32% and Pima Elementary School at 31%. In math, Pima High leads at 31%, compared with 27% at the elementary school and 24% at the junior high. Grade-level results add important context: Pima Junior High’s 8th-grade math is 32%, 2 percentage points above the state, and Pima High’s 11th-grade math matches the state at 31%. Among the larger gaps, Pima Elementary’s 6th-grade ELA is 26% versus 41% statewide, and its 3rd-grade ELA is 25% versus 39%.

SchoolDigger’s rankings have mostly declined over the three comparable years: the elementary and high schools each fell 13 percentile points from 2023–24 to 2025–26, while the junior high rose 5 points; the average across the three fell 7 points. These are ranking trends, not test-score trends. Staffing figures don’t point to a clear overall leader: the junior high has the highest reported student–teacher ratio, 20, and leads in all-grades ELA, but has the lowest all-grades math result; Pima High has the lowest ratio, 15.4, and leads in math. Gila Valley Learning Center’s reported 2021–22 dropout rate was 20%, compared with 4% at Pima High and 5% at the junior high. Gila Valley’s test scores are suppressed, grade spans differ, and the 2021–22 school dropout figures are older than the 2024–25 districtwide rates.
