Summary:

Leman Academy of Excellence Inc. has seven schools serving kindergarten through eighth grade across Tucson, Mesa, Oro Valley and Sierra Vista, plus a virtual school. Across schools with reported results, average AASA proficiency was 50% in English language arts (ELA) and 44% in math, compared with state results of 41% and 33%; five of seven schools exceeded the state in ELA, and five of six did so in math. The most important takeaway is that these above-state averages conceal a wide spread in results from school to school.

Leman Academy of Excellence (Silverbell) leads overall ELA at 64%, while Leman Academy of Excellence–Oro Valley leads math at 57%; those results are 23 and 24 percentage points above the respective state results. Leman Academy of Excellence East Mesa also stands out, with 62% ELA and 50% math despite enrollment of 128. At the lower end, Leman Virtual Academy has the lowest reported ELA result, 26%, while Leman Academy of Excellence – Central Tucson has the lowest reported math, 30%, and the lowest reported ELA among schools with scores, 37%.

SchoolDigger’s latest statewide rankings range from the 80th percentile for Oro Valley to the 47th for Central Tucson. Across five schools with comparable histories, the average ranking rose from the 61st percentile in 2023–24 to the 65th in 2025–26, though individual schools moved in different directions; those rankings do not show whether test scores rose. School size and student–teacher ratios do not offer a simple guide: Silverbell and East Tucson have similar enrollments, but Silverbell scores 15 points higher in ELA and 7 points higher in math. Grade-level results also reveal exceptions: Central Tucson’s fifth-grade ELA and math are both above state results, and Sierra Vista has the highest reported fifth-grade math score, 69%. Science varies by grade too: the fifth-grade average is 32% against 34% statewide, while the eighth-grade average is 44% against 30%. Small enrollments at East Mesa and Virtual Academy, and the lack of multi-year test-score results, are important context when interpreting these comparisons.
