Summary

Springdale High School is a large, traditional public high school in Springdale, AR, serving 2,207 students in grades 9-12 as part of the Springdale School District. The school faces significant challenges, with 85.86% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch—the highest rate among nearby schools—and academic proficiency rates that are dramatically lower than both district and state averages. For example, only 18.8% of students are proficient in English Language Arts, compared to 37% in the district and 39.4% statewide, while Algebra proficiency stands at a concerning 0% for the 2025-2026 school year.

Despite spending $13,873 per student—more than many higher-performing peers—the school has experienced a persistent decline in its state ranking over the past decade, dropping from the 45th percentile in 2015-2016 to the 10th percentile (0 stars) for 2025-2026. This starkly contrasts with Har-Ber High School, located just 3.94 miles away in the same district, which has a lower poverty rate (58.96% free/reduced lunch) and significantly higher test scores, such as 37.9% proficiency in ELA. The graduation rate at Springdale High School has improved to 87.6% but still lags behind the state average of 90.1% and nearby schools like Rogers Heritage High School and Rogers High School, both of which exceed 91%.

These outcomes highlight systemic issues that go beyond funding, as the school spends more per student than Fayetteville High School ($14,846) yet achieves far lower results. The data suggests that while economic disadvantage is a major factor, school-level factors also play a critical role, given the wide performance gap within the same district. For parents, this information underscores the importance of considering both academic outcomes and the broader school environment when evaluating options in the region.

Open Quote Transferred here from Har-Ber High School. I love it here. The people are nice, the teachers are nice, and the administration is very accommodating for my disability. The teachers really do care about the students. The last time I had a teacher that DIDN'T care was at Har-Ber. Test scores aren't everything. Despite the lower averages for Springdale High, I do not regret transferring at all. Close Quote

Open Quote My daughter attended 10th grade during the 2012-2013 school year. She was bullied during the whole year. She had to find different routes to her classes to avoid the kids tripping her in the hallways and the group of girls pulling her hair and taking her book bag away from her. She didn't feel safe going there and as a parent I hated that she was being bullied but nothing was being done about it. I called the 10th grade counselor and called the school board to get her released so we could enroll her in another district. They told us they only did in district transfers even after I explained she was being bullied. I was told that the principal would contact me but I never heard from him. Needless to say we took her out and enrolled her in Fayetteville high school. We could tell the difference immediately. She loves it there. Springdale just lost a straight A student and potential national merit scholar. Close Quote
