Summary

Springdale High School is a public high school serving grades 10-12 in the Springdale School District in Arkansas, with an enrollment of 2,195 students. The school has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Arkansas high schools over the past decade, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Springdale High School faces significant challenges, with low test scores, high poverty rates, and declining performance relative to other schools in the region. The school consistently underperforms the state and district averages on standardized tests, with only 19% of students proficient in English Language Arts and 6.9% proficient in Geometry, compared to state averages of 34.2% and 21.5%, respectively. Additionally, Springdale High has an extremely high percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, around 85% in recent years, much higher than the state and district averages. While the school's spending per student is slightly higher than the state average, it is lower than some of the higher-performing nearby schools, such as Rogers Heritage High School and Fayetteville High School, which also have lower student-teacher ratios.

The data suggests the Springdale School District and school leadership may need to implement more effective strategies to support student learning and close achievement gaps. Exploring the successful practices of higher-performing nearby schools, such as Rogers New Technology High School and Haas Hall Academy, could provide valuable insights for improving Springdale High School's performance.

Open Quote Transferred here from Har-Ber High School. I love it here. The people are nice, the teachers are nice, and the administration is very accommodating for my disability. The teachers really do care about the students. The last time I had a teacher that DIDN'T care was at Har-Ber. Test scores aren't everything. Despite the lower averages for Springdale High, I do not regret transferring at all. Close Quote

Open Quote My daughter attended 10th grade during the 2012-2013 school year. She was bullied during the whole year. She had to find different routes to her classes to avoid the kids tripping her in the hallways and the group of girls pulling her hair and taking her book bag away from her. She didn't feel safe going there and as a parent I hated that she was being bullied but nothing was being done about it. I called the 10th grade counselor and called the school board to get her released so we could enroll her in another district. They told us they only did in district transfers even after I explained she was being bullied. I was told that the principal would contact me but I never heard from him. Needless to say we took her out and enrolled her in Fayetteville high school. We could tell the difference immediately. She loves it there. Springdale just lost a straight A student and potential national merit scholar. Close Quote
