Summary

Joe T. Robinson Elementary School is a mid-sized school in Little Rock, AR, serving 295 students in grades PK through 5 as part of the Pulaski County Special School District, with about 46% of students receiving free or reduced lunch.

This school is at a crossroads. After earning 3 or 4 stars for years, it has recently dropped to a 2-star rating, with state rankings falling from the 69th to the 41st percentile. Academic proficiency in English, math, and science now sits below the state average. This decline is especially noticeable when compared to nearby schools like Baker Elementary, Chenal Elementary, and Don Roberts Elementary, which consistently earn 4 or 5 stars and rank in the top 20% of Arkansas schools. For example, in math, Joe T. Robinson's proficiency rate of 34% is less than half of Baker's 65.6% and Don Roberts' 71.3%.

Despite these challenges, there are bright spots. The 5th grade consistently outperforms the state average and the school's own 3rd and 4th grades, suggesting a strong teaching team or a particularly capable group of students. The school also has a favorable student-teacher ratio of 12.6:1, which is lower than many top-performing peers. However, the 4th grade is a consistent weak point, with proficiency rates well below state averages across all subjects. The school spends $14,628 per student, which is more than some higher-performing nearby schools, raising questions about how effectively resources are being used to boost academic outcomes.

Open Quote We have absolutely loved Robinson Elementary! The school is smaller than most, but it has a warm and inviting feel as soon as you arrive. The teachers are amazing, and the newly renovated interior makes the very mature school seem like new again. They also have a great extended day program that is open from 6:30am until 6:00pm which is so helpful to busy parents. They do such fun and educational activities with the students in the extended day program too! I would highly recommend this hidden gem to other families! Close Quote
