Summary

Crystal Hill Elementary is a mid-sized school in North Little Rock, AR, serving 499 students from Pre-K through 5th grade as part of the Pulaski County Special School District. The school has historically ranked in the lower third of Arkansas elementary schools, but recent data shows a potential turning point: its free/reduced lunch population dropped sharply from 99% to about 60% in a single year, and overall math proficiency improved from 24.7% to 35.1% in the 2025-2026 school year. This demographic shift, combined with efficient spending of $15,178 per student, suggests the school is operating with a lean budget while still showing signs of progress.

A standout strength is 3rd-grade math, where 49% of students are proficient—far exceeding the district average of 30.2% and dramatically outperforming nearby schools like Oak Grove Elementary (13.6%) and Amboy Elementary (25.7%). However, the school faces a pronounced "4th-grade slump," with math proficiency dropping to 22.7% and English Language Arts falling from 37.2% to 26.2% between 3rd and 4th grade. This pattern is much sharper than at high-performing neighbors like Jefferson Elementary, indicating a need for stronger curriculum alignment as students advance.

Compared to its same-district peer Oak Grove, Crystal Hill outperforms it in every subject and grade despite having a larger student-teacher ratio (15:1 vs. 12:1) and lower per-student spending. This suggests that factors like school leadership and teacher quality are driving better outcomes. The school sits in a polarized neighborhood, with elite schools like Forest Park Elementary (95th percentile) just a few miles away, but Crystal Hill is not benefiting from any "spillover" effect. The key to future success will be addressing the 4th-grade slump and building on the strong 3rd-grade math program to create a more consistent upward trajectory.

Open Quote Don't ssend you child here unless you want them to be bullied. My daughter was bullied all year by a group of boys and the school did nothing to stop it. One boy went as far as to threaten her on Instagram of course they said they would look into it but nothing. This school is basically run by a group of preteen wannabe gangsters, that the so called adminstration has no controll over. I am proud to say that this is my daughters last year at this terrible school and I just wanted to warn other parents. Close Quote
