Summary

Carolyn Lewis Elementary School is a K-4 school in Conway, AR, serving 514 students as part of the Conway School District, and it has a strong track record of high performance, consistently earning 4 or 5 stars from SchoolDigger over the past decade.

This school stands out for its elite academic performance, especially in English Language Arts (ELA), where it achieved a 62.5% proficiency rate in the 2025-2026 school year—dramatically higher than the district average of 46.9% and the state average of 39.4%. Its math proficiency rate of 53% also exceeds district and state averages, though it is slightly lower than its ELA scores, suggesting a potential area for targeted support in lower grades. What makes Carolyn Lewis particularly impressive is its consistency: its state ranking has fluctuated only between the 83rd and 86th percentile over the last three years, while nearby schools like Julia Lee Moore Elementary and Ellen Smith Elementary have seen significant drops. Additionally, Carolyn Lewis achieves these results while spending $11,164 per student—below the average of its top competitors like Woodrow Cummins Elementary ($13,142) and Ida Burns Elementary ($13,365)—indicating efficient resource use.

An interesting comparison is with nearby Woodrow Cummins Elementary, located just 3.92 miles away, which has a slight edge in math (55.4% vs. 53%) but trails in ELA (57.5% vs. 62.5%), giving parents two excellent but differently specialized options. Carolyn Lewis also breaks a common trend: despite a moderate poverty rate of 54.47%, it outperforms schools with much lower poverty rates, such as Woodrow Cummins (36.89%) and Julia Lee Moore (40.55%), suggesting effective strategies to support all students. While Anne Watson Elementary in the East End School District shows strong math scores, and Mayflower Elementary in the Mayflower School District has shown rapid improvement, Carolyn Lewis remains a reliable, high-quality choice for families seeking consistent academic excellence.

Open Quote Both of my children went to Carolyn Lewis. CLE has a wonderful, caring staff and excellent teachers! They offer several opportunities for students to be involved in areas of interest, such as running club, choir, book club, chess club, science club and they even have a school garden! My family was blessed to be a part of this school. Close Quote
