Summary

Maumelle Charter High School in North Little Rock, AR, is a public charter school serving 508 students in grades 8 through 12, located in a relatively affluent area where only about 20% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

This school has a strong history of academic excellence, consistently ranking among the top 20 schools in Arkansas from 2016 to 2023, but it has experienced a significant recent decline, dropping to 105th in the state. Despite this overall ranking drop, the school still outperforms its closest traditional public school neighbor, Maumelle High School, by a wide margin in English Language Arts (51.5% vs. 26.3% proficient) and Reading (53.2% vs. 29.9%). The school also excels in Science, with 55.1% of students proficient in Biology, well above the state average. However, mathematics is a clear weakness, with proficiency rates in Algebra (25%) and Geometry (23.5%) falling below state averages, which is likely a major factor in the school's declining state ranking.

On a positive note, the school maintains a strong graduation rate of 93.3% and an exceptionally low dropout rate of just 0.2%, showing that students stay engaged and on track to graduate. Compared to other local charter schools, Lisa Academy West High School has a much higher rate of disadvantaged students (76%) and scores significantly lower in nearly every subject. The Founders Classical Academies Of Arkansas district has a very small high school that has also seen a dramatic ranking decline. Overall, Maumelle Charter remains a strong choice for families prioritizing English and Science, but the school's math struggles are a key area for parents to investigate further.

Open Quote Teacher student ratio is skewed. My daughter has 30:1 in HS. My son had 28-30:1 in his classes in MS.

A lot of classes are taught by Virtual Arkansas instructors which is great for some kids, But it is not often disclosed at registration the format of the course and you find that out when school begins.

I would do a lot of research and talk to others before making the switch to a charter school of any kind.

Learn what the term charter school means in the state of AR. The school gets waivers for services that regular public school are required by law to provide their students and teachers! Some of those being: GT, school library, duty free lunch for educators, and many more. Get online and read what they are waiving. Close Quote
