Summary

Troy Elementary School in Troy, AL, serves 1,018 students from Pre-K through 6th grade within the Troy City district, and has earned a 3-star rating for three consecutive years while climbing from the 42nd to the 53rd percentile statewide over the past decade.

If your child excels in math, this school has clear strengths. Troy Elementary outperformed state proficiency averages in every grade level tested in 2025-2026, with particularly strong results in 3rd grade (58% vs. 44.89% statewide) and 6th grade (46.73% vs. 35.22% statewide). The school also shows meaningful progress with students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, improving from the 41st to the 52nd percentile over two years. Chronic absenteeism has dropped dramatically from 25.7% to 19.0% in just two years, though it still remains above the state average of 12.0%. However, science is a significant challenge—4th grade proficiency has lagged 14-19 points behind state averages for three consecutive years, making it the school's most critical academic weakness. English Language Arts results are mixed, with 6th grade exceeding state averages but 5th grade falling 10.6 points behind.

When comparing to nearby options, Banks School, just 6.84 miles away, serves a similar demographic profile yet achieves dramatically better outcomes—ranking in the 81st percentile statewide compared to Troy's 53rd, with English proficiency rates of 84-91% versus Troy's 58-61%. Banks also maintains a lower chronic absenteeism rate (8.6% vs. 19.0%) and smaller class sizes (15.3 vs. 18.8 student-teacher ratio). Troy Elementary does spend less per student ($9,006) than nearby schools like Pike County Elementary ($10,807) and Goshen Elementary ($10,566), suggesting efficient resource use. The consistent drop in math performance between 3rd and 4th grades also hints at a possible curriculum transition issue worth investigating.

Open Quote If you are lucky enough to get a good teacher, your child will excel. Both of my sons attended TES, and they both have exceptional SAT scores. By the way, the best teacher isn't always the "popular" teacher that everyone requests. We have had 11 years worth of teachers at TES. Deb Davis is, by far, the best teacher that either of my sons has had. We have never had another teacher who cared more about my sons' success. Many teachers ignore the kids who are advanced or gifted. Mrs. Davis finds ways to keep the gifted children interested and involved as well. However if you don't want your kid to do homework at night, she isn't the teacher for you. Close Quote
