Summary

Forest Avenue Elementary School is a K-5 public school in Montgomery, AL, serving 617 students and consistently ranking as one of the top elementary schools in the entire state.

Forest Avenue is an academic powerhouse, ranking #1 out of 686 elementary schools in Alabama for the 2025-2026 school year. This isn't a one-year fluke—the school has held a perfect 5-star rating for every year on record and has ranked #1 or #2 in the state for 8 of the last 10 years. Test scores are near-universal, with 100% proficiency in 3rd and 5th grade English and over 90% proficiency in math across all grades. These numbers are roughly 2 to 4 times higher than state averages and 3 to 4 times higher than the Montgomery County district averages. What makes this even more impressive is that the school achieves these results with lower per-student spending ($7,213) than many lower-performing peers, like Nixon Elementary ($12,030) and Davis Elementary ($9,516).

The school's success extends across every student subgroup—it ranks #1 in the state for Male, African American, and Low Socio-Economic Status students, proving its effectiveness isn't limited to any one demographic. Chronic absenteeism is remarkably low at just 0.8%, compared to 25.2% district-wide and 12.0% statewide, indicating strong family-school partnerships. The contrast with nearby Highland Avenue Elementary School (just 0.78 miles away, ranked #673) is stark—Forest Avenue's 3rd-grade math proficiency is 94.68% versus just 10% at Highland Avenue. Even compared to the area's next-best school, Bear Exploration Center (ranked #24), Forest Avenue holds a significant edge in every subject. For parents seeking exceptional academic outcomes, Forest Avenue is in a class of its own.

Open Quote This is our son's second year at Forest Avenue. He is in 2nd grade and we have had a great experience at this school. The Principal and staff are excellent/caring. The students are expected to excel academically, so hard work is required but many fun field trips and activities are planned/encouraged throughout the year. Diversity is also one of this school's strong attributes. Awesome school!!! Close Quote
