Decatur High School is a large public high school in Decatur, AL, serving 915 students in grades 9-12 as part of the Decatur City school district.

One of the most striking things about Decatur High is its incredible success in getting students to show up. Chronic absenteeism has plummeted from 29.4% a few years ago to just 4.0% today—far better than the state average of 12.0% and dramatically lower than nearby Austin High School, which sits at 13.4%. The school also boasts a strong graduation rate of 93.7%. However, this attendance success hasn't translated into higher test scores. In fact, the school's overall state ranking took a significant dip in the most recent school year, falling to the 49th percentile after ranking much higher just a year prior. The most concerning trend is in 11th-grade math, where proficiency dropped sharply from 30.9% to 22.8%, now falling below the state average. This suggests that while students are coming to school, academic support may not be keeping pace with their needs.
