Summary

Pine Grove Elementary School in Bay Minette, AL, is a mid-sized PK-6 school serving 449 students within the Baldwin County district, where a large majority of families (74.4%) qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Pine Grove currently holds a 1-star rating and ranks in the bottom third of Alabama elementary schools, which is a notable contrast to its surrounding district. While Baldwin County is a high-performing district (4 stars, 76th percentile), Pine Grove sits at the 21st percentile statewide. The most significant academic gaps appear in mathematics—for example, only 9.1% of 5th graders are proficient in math, compared to 55.2% at nearby Rockwell Elementary and 49.1% at Spanish Fort Elementary. English Language Arts scores are comparatively stronger, with 5th grade reaching 58.2% proficiency, though still below the district average of 76.7%. Even Bay Minette Elementary, just 2.3 miles away and serving a similar demographic, outperforms Pine Grove in 3rd grade math (26.2% vs. 19.3%).

There are some encouraging signs. Chronic absenteeism has dropped dramatically from 20.3% in 2022-2023 to 11.2% in 2024-2025, now matching the district average. The school also spends more per student ($11,611) than several higher-performing nearby schools, suggesting funding isn't the primary issue. However, the sharp decline in outcomes for African American students—from the 28th percentile statewide to the 4th percentile in just two years—is a serious concern that warrants targeted attention. For parents considering this school, it's important to understand that while Pine Grove faces significant challenges, particularly in math, the improvements in attendance and relative strength in reading provide a foundation that school leadership can build upon.

Open Quote I'd give no stars but it wont let me.
My son is special needs and non verbal but this school which just this year has opened a program for special needs school. So not only no experience ar this but they hired a damn teacher straight out of college with no teaching skills or experience whatever to handle a special needs progam.

He is constantly coming home wet or with exchanged soaking wet clothes because they fail to check him after he has a drink or something.

They embarrassed him by suspending him because they made him angry then decided to put him into gen population again while hes still upset. So when another student tried to hug him he pushed him. So my autistic son was suspended.
Wtf??
Worst school ever.
I'm going to school board next. Close Quote
