There is a clear performance divide among the elementary schools in this district. Leon Sheffield Magnet Elementary School is the standout performer, ranking in the 95th percentile statewide with 5-star status and dramatically higher test scores than any other school—its average English proficiency of 90.10% is nearly 20 points higher than the next closest school. Eastwood Elementary School and Walter Jackson Elementary School also perform well, with 4-star and 3-star ratings respectively. Julian Harris Elementary School showed the most improvement, jumping from the 48th to the 63rd percentile in one year. At the other end, West Decatur Elementary School ranks in the 11th percentile with 1-star status, and Oak Park Elementary School and BanksCaddell Elementary School also struggle in the bottom quartile.
