Bowman Elementary is a PK–6 school of 536 students in the Gregory Road area of Anchorage, serving a moderate-income community within the Anchorage School District, where just under 29% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. The school has historically been a solidly above-average performer in Alaska, and it still exceeds both district and statewide averages in English language arts, math, and science. In 2025-2026, 39.41% of students were proficient in ELA, 47.06% in math, and 49.18% in science, compared with district averages of 35.97%, 35.66%, and 39.06% respectively. Several nearby schools now outperform it by meaningful margins: Huffman Elementary reached 64.56% ELA proficiency and 62.03% math, Rabbit Creek Elementary reached 49.39% ELA and 56.44% math, and Ocean View Elementary reached 49.57% ELA and 57.39% math, all within about 1.3 miles of Bowman.
