Ketchikan High School serves 551 students in grades 9 through 12 and is the largest high school in the Ketchikan, Alaska area, operating as part of the Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District. The school currently ranks 51st of 62 Alaska high schools, placing it in the bottom fifth of the state, yet it is the strongest of the three local high schools, ahead of Revilla Junior/Senior High School and Metlakatla High School. Its 90.1% graduation rate leads the region and stands more than 10 points above the district average of 80%.

The academic picture is more concerning. Math proficiency has fallen sharply, from 32.14% in 2022–23 to just 7.62% in 2025–26, leaving fewer than one in ten students proficient. English Language Arts proficiency also slipped from 36.11% to 27.43%, dropping the school slightly below the state average. Science is a relative bright spot, with proficiency rising to 35.71%, close to the state average and better than the other two nearby high schools.
