Summary

Liberty Senior High School is a top-ranked public high school serving 1,495 students in grades 9-12 in Renton, Washington, operating within the highly-regarded Issaquah School District.

The school consistently demonstrates exceptional performance, ranking in the 95th percentile statewide with a 96.3% graduation rate and dropout rates below 1%. Student proficiency in English (85%) and Science (85%) far exceeds state averages, though math scores, while strong, are an area for growth relative to the district. Liberty effectively supports students from all backgrounds, with economically disadvantaged students performing at the 94th percentile statewide. This excellence is sustained within a supportive district framework, though performance for some student subgroups indicates opportunities for focused support.

Comparisons with nearby schools highlight significant differences. Liberty's academic outcomes are markedly higher than those of schools in the Renton School District, such as Renton Senior High School and Hazen Senior High School. Within its own district, the alternative Gibson Ek High School has a similar graduation rate but different instructional and spending models. The dramatic range in performance among schools in close geographic proximity underscores broader systemic factors influencing educational opportunity in the region.

Open Quote I had heard great things about this school before attending. It didn't take long to find out how horribly wrong they were. The staff is incompetent at best. They are completely blind to the real problems in the school such as drugs and criminal activity but quick to punish innocent students for things like taking too long in the bathroom. Lockers were unavailable and most of the school was under heavy construction. I was greeted each morning by the smell of sulphur, loud clanking of machinery, and unwelcoming grimaces from teachers and principals. The school-funded dances are a joke to say the least. All the students are jammed in the gym and there is no refreshments anywhere. This was very surprising considering the tickets were over thirty dollars each. I would like to think that after the school is done with construction it will get better but the chances are slim to none. I have never been more appalled by unproffessionalism than I was attending this school. I suffered a concussion playing football for their team. I brought the helmet to my doctor who was a concussion specialist to find that the helmet was faulty. Nobody followed up asking how I was when I was out of the game and I even had a teacher accuse me of faking to get attention. If there was a lower rating I'd be quick to give it. If you care about your children's happiness you will reconsider sending them here. Close Quote

Open Quote An absolutely wonderful school that just keeps getting better and better. As the test scores show, liberty has finally reached the same level of students meeting or exceeding the standard in testing as skyline and issaquah. The whole community will benefit from a brand new liberty in a couple of years. Our family is looking forward to attending one of the top 2% of high schools in the state. Congrats liberty staff on a job well done. Close Quote
