Summary:

Tukwila School District serves about 2,886 students in five schools: three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school, covering elementary through high school grades in the Tukwila area. Overall, the district ranks 218th of 238 Washington districts, but performance varies considerably from school to school. About 75% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, so families should consider both academic results and the support services available at each school.

Tukwila Elementary is the district’s strongest overall academic performer, leading all schools in ELA, math, and science. Its proficiency rates were 39.38% in ELA, 38.46% in math, and 40% in science, and it has the district’s highest ranking. It is also the only school with a reported two-star rating. Foster Senior High School had the district’s highest ELA result at 43.46% and stands out for its 89.4% graduation rate and 5.7% dropout rate, both favorable compared with state figures. However, Foster’s math and science proficiency were much lower. Thorndyke Elementary had the lowest student-teacher ratio, at 14.6, and improved in math, but its overall results remained modest.

Showalter Middle School was relatively stronger in science, with 27.84% proficiency, but math was its greatest challenge, at just 15.56%. Cascade View Elementary had the lowest elementary results, with 19.15% proficiency in ELA, 15.93% in math, and 17.86% in science, and ranked in the fifth percentile statewide. Across the district, math—especially at Showalter and Cascade View—and declining science results deserve the most attention. Parents comparing schools will find the clearest academic advantage at Tukwila Elementary, strong completion outcomes at Foster, and the greatest need for targeted support at Cascade View and Showalter.
