It is part of the Fairfax County Public Schools district, which is ranked 45 out of 129 school districts in Virginia and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite being part of a relatively high-performing district, Falls Church High has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Virginia high schools, receiving a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of the past 5 years. The school performs relatively well for Asian and African American students, but struggles with Hispanic and English Language Learner students, as well as low socioeconomic status students. Its 4-year graduation rate of 92-94% is slightly below the Fairfax County and Virginia averages, and its dropout rate of 4.3-5.4% is higher than the district and state averages. Additionally, Falls Church High has a chronic absenteeism rate of 12.8-19.3%, which is higher than the Fairfax County and Virginia averages.

Compared to nearby high-performing schools like Thomas Jefferson High for Science and Technology, Woodson High, and McLean High, Falls Church High performs significantly worse, with below-average test scores across various subjects and grade levels. This disparity may be partly attributed to the school's higher percentage of students from low-income families, as well as potential resource constraints, with a student-teacher ratio higher than the top-performing nearby schools.
