Open Quote First that I will say that Hickory Middle School has some very accomplished and dedicated staff including the support faculty and teachers. If you have any doubt that your child will receive a great public-school education, then don't. I can also say from experience from the perspective of a parent that relocated to this district and bought an over expensive home to be here that my expectations may have been too high. This school is experiencing some of the same challenges that others are in America. There are kids that Vape at times of the day I know there is marijuana being sold on campus.
My biggest concern is with the lack of diversity at Hickory. I realize for many of the parents that is the reason why they think the school is so good, but it causes more problems that people think. As a parent of color, I can say that cross cultural acceptance seems to be low on the priority list here. If Hickory can improve in any area it would have to be the inclusion of other races into its day to day activities. Close Quote

Open Quote Great school. A very comfortable and encouraging environment. But of course that won't last long As the state and local Corrupticians.. I mean politicians have declared that there are too many white people, hence they are obviously a bunch of racist, white supremacist's. So they will cleanse us of our sins and rezone a large number of the Hickory district neighborhoods to a.. much more Suitable school where our Privileged children can learn some much deserved tough lessons in life, like being deservedly picked on and bullied because their Privileged parents decided to waist a huge portion of their lives working to absolute exhaustion in an attempt to provide a nourishing life for their families Instead of letting the federal system provide a humiliating but very survivable existence. Of which about 90 is Happily paid for by us morons, senselessly working like dogs.. "But wait?" You ask.. "that will leave the school under capacity, won't it?" No no no, the Local Corruptitions.. I mean politicians, in all of there concern had a few closed meetings with some really nice, community oriented property Developers and they worked out a plan, and in no time at all they had erected a massively wonderful Apartment complex Right Across the Street from the Middle school And the High school. The Apartment complex was such a hit, they decided to add several hundred more units!! Wow!! Talk about luck! After hundreds of foolish families went and worked like rabid idiots and waisted Hundreds of thousands of dollars to purchase hugely inflated houses to live in a good school district, will now not only get to send their children off to learn a lesson in their new school of hard knocks, but we also won't have to worry about trying to sell our over priced, highly inflated homes.. because no one wants to live here now! Hahaha.
I Do have some really good news though! The Really Awesome property Developers were able to save Millions of dollars because they didn't have to build Any Additional Infrastructure!... At All.
And our local politicians, They must have been saving for a long long time, because they all have really nice cars now! And I'll bet they sleep like babies. Close Quote

Open Quote At one time Hickory Middle was an excellent school. Over the last year the overcrowding has become unbearable. My child was suppose to be in gifted classes but due to the overcrowding that curriculum was not made available to her. She was placed in overcrowded honors classes with new students coming in every week. The teachers seem overworked and frustrated. Cleanliness and needed repairs is also an issue. There are broken toilets in the restrooms, roaches and bugs in the hallways and mold in the portables. We moved to Chesapeake a few years ago for the great public schools but have been extremely disappointed. Close Quote
