Summary

Marcus High School in Flower Mound, TX, is a large, high-performing public school serving nearly 3,000 students in grades 9-12 within the Lewisville Independent School District (Isd). The school has a long track record of academic excellence, consistently earning top ratings, and boasts a near-perfect graduation rate of 98.4% with an incredibly low dropout rate of 0.2%. Its student body is notably affluent, with a very low percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, which contributes to its strong overall performance profile.

Marcus's most outstanding differentiator is its exceptional support for Special Education students, ranking in the 91st percentile—a feat consistently high over the last three years. The school also excels in English Language Arts, consistently outperforming district and state averages by a wide margin. However, the school faces a challenge from its direct neighbor, Flower Mound High School, which has shown stronger recent momentum and has surpassed Marcus in overall state ranking. While Marcus still holds a slight edge in U.S. History, Flower Mound outperforms it in English II Reading and Biology. Additionally, Marcus's Algebra I scores are surprisingly inconsistent and, in some years, not dramatically better than the state average, which is a stark contrast to its performance in other subjects.

The most critical area for Marcus to address is the apparent decline in support for its English Language Learner (ELL) and Low Socio-Economic Status (SES) students. Recent data shows a dramatic drop in ELL performance from the 79th to the 32nd percentile, and Low SES support has fallen from the 84th to the 53rd percentile. This represents a gap in its otherwise strong equity profile, especially when compared to nearby schools like Lake Dallas High School and Lewisville High School, which serve more diverse student populations. Overall, Marcus High School is an excellent school with a strong academic foundation, but it needs to focus on supporting its most vulnerable students to maintain its top-tier status.

Open Quote The chemistry departments are terrible they only make work on the iPad and the iPads don't fully ork and have their own bugs but I'm a visual learner and I like paperwork ...getting my grade online and not knowing weather I finished Somthing or not . Is tedious and annoying . Other classes are well put but I wish a hands on class like chemistry was not so boring and relying on only technology which leads to failing students Close Quote
