Summary

Humble Elementary in Humble, TX, is a PK-5 school serving 620 students within the Humble Independent School District (Isd), and it is currently experiencing a remarkable turnaround after years of stagnation. The most defining feature of this school is its dramatic upward trajectory: after ranking in the 30th-40th percentile for several years, it jumped to the 64th percentile in the 2025-2026 school year—a 25-percentile-point leap in a single year. This rate of improvement is not seen in any nearby comparison schools, many of which are trending downward. For example, Lakeland Elementary (17th percentile) and River Pines Elementary (19th percentile) continue to struggle, while Humble Elementary is proving that a high-poverty school can achieve strong results.

Humble Elementary excels in reading, especially in the upper grades, where 4th-grade reading proficiency (61.9%) and 5th-grade reading proficiency (71.23%) significantly outperformed both district and state averages. The school also shows exceptional performance with specific student groups, ranking in the 84th percentile for Hispanic students and the 76th percentile for low socio-economic status students. This is a stark contrast to nearby schools with similar demographics, such as Foster Elementary, which has a lower poverty rate (51.9% vs. 77.1%) but is now outperformed by Humble Elementary in overall state ranking (64th vs. 60th percentile) and in key areas like 4th-grade reading (61.9% vs. 56.6%). This suggests that school-level leadership and targeted interventions are making a tangible difference.

The school's most significant challenge is in mathematics, where 3rd-grade math proficiency was just 29.69%—15 points below the state average. Additionally, there is a notable performance gap for students taking the Spanish version of the STAAR test, indicating that the bilingual program may need additional support. Despite these challenges, Humble Elementary stands as a beacon in a challenging landscape, achieving significantly better results than other high-poverty schools in the area like Jack M Fields Senior Elementary and Cypresswood Elementary. The primary focus moving forward will be replicating its reading success in mathematics and bridging the achievement gap for Spanish-language learners.

Open Quote I have no idea where the above review came from but our school nurse calls me each time one of my children get hurt asap. This school is a wonderful blessing to our family from the teachers to front desk to cafeteria workers. I love the staff for their patience and love of their job. I have 2 children that attend the dual language program and I pray my 3rd kid starts this program as well. thank you Humble el and staff! Close Quote

Open Quote horrible horrible school.... locking kids outside with no teacher.. principle hides out so u cant talk to her. and lies about not being there. teachers think its cute to play rap music and dance like strippers on stage at talent show. teachers come to work just to get paid.. no teaching going on. no homework or study sheets. if your child gets hurt dont count on the nurse to call you until hours after it happens....
