Summary

Griffin Middle in Frisco, TX, serves 685 students in grades 6-8 within the highly-ranked Frisco Independent School District (Isd) and has a long-standing reputation for academic excellence, though its statewide ranking has shifted from the top 2% to the 91st percentile over the last five years.

Griffin Middle remains a strong school with notable strengths, particularly in advanced coursework. Its Algebra I End-of-Course (EOC) pass rate of 91.06% and Biology EOC pass rate of 100% significantly outperform district averages, showing the school is highly effective at preparing top students for high school-level material. The school also excels with specific student groups, ranking in the 92nd percentile for Hispanic and Gifted & Talented students, and the 91st percentile for Special Education students. However, a key challenge is 8th-grade math proficiency, which has been consistently below the district average, though it is improving. This likely reflects that top math students take Algebra I (reported separately), leaving a weaker cohort in standard 8th-grade math. The school has a very low free/reduced lunch rate of about 7.9% and a 0.0% dropout rate for the last four years.

Compared to nearby schools, Griffin Middle now ranks alongside Stafford Middle (208th) and Cobb Middle (209th), while top-tier peers like Pioneer Heritage Middle and Trent Middle rank in the top 100. The contrast with out-of-district neighbor Lowell H Strike Middle in Little Elm Independent School District (Isd) is stark—Griffin has a 7.88% free/reduced lunch rate and ranks in the 91st percentile, while Strike has a 40.18% rate and ranks in the 65th percentile. Meanwhile, Staley Middle, also in Frisco ISD, has a 47.21% free/reduced lunch rate and a 40th percentile rank, despite having the highest per-student spending and lowest student-teacher ratio, highlighting how demographic profiles can vary widely even within the same district.

Open Quote I do not recommend this school based on my experience. The Music teacher behaved unprofessionally, even going so far as to shout at parents, which was both inappropriate and upsetting. The principal's leadership style also left much to be desired, as it came across as overly strict and authoritarian. She appeared more focused on exercising control than on addressing the well-being of the students. I witnessed instances of students being unfairly punished without cause, showing little regard for their feelings or those of their parents. Overall, the school seemed more concerned with maintaining authority than cultivating a supportive and nurturing learning environment. Close Quote
