Summary

Riverside School is an elementary school serving grades PK-8 in the Cleveland Municipal District, with a student population of 472. While the school has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Ohio elementary schools, it outperforms the district average on state assessments, particularly in Mathematics and English Language Arts.

One key area of concern is Riverside School's very high chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 51.5% to 56.1% in recent years, which is significantly higher than the state average. However, the school performs particularly well for its African American and English Language Learner student populations, ranking in the top half of Ohio elementary schools for these subgroups. In contrast, Riverside School's White and Gifted and Talented student populations perform poorly, ranking in the bottom quarter of Ohio elementary schools.

Comparing Riverside School to nearby schools, its performance is generally better than other Cleveland Municipal District schools in the area, such as Wilbur Wright School and Mary Church Terrell. However, the Lakewood City schools, such as Roosevelt Elementary, Hayes Elementary, and Grant Elementary, located near Riverside School, significantly outperform it on state assessments and have lower chronic absenteeism rates, despite serving similar student populations.

Open Quote This school is unbearably sad. I hope you heed my warning. It's a beautiful new school in the middle of a quiet neighborhood which is quite appealing but the teachers, administration, and fellow parents are a complete joke.

My son is in the advanced class and his teacher sends home a weekly letter that, since week 1, is completely riddled with spelling and grammatical errors. It makes me cringe. She gives at least an hour of homework every night which ranges nonsensically from 4+4 to long division. It's clearly just printed from some random internet page. She has also instructed these young minds that zero is in fact an even number. Are you serious?! I received a call home from the principal that my son was in an "altercation" . It consisted of him (8 years old) going to the bathroom and being punched in the stomach by a 13 year old! The kid was a "problem child" just roaming the hallways I guess. I was happy they contacted me and they seemed to take good care of my son after the incident, but when I went in for conferences and asked the teacher SHE HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. Then clearly realized she had no idea and said "yes the kids use the restroom". Are you joking me?

I've twice came and picked my son up in the car line and there were no teachers or anything. kindergartners and 1st graders just wandering through traffic. Parent's flying up the wrong side of the street to try and pick their kid up faster. I asked my son where the teachers were and he said they were just talking inside and didn't come out today.

Just go to the website for this school. It's a generic webpage generated by the garbage CMSD. Call the number listed. It doesn't even work. Go to the calendar of events. You can't see anything that's on there and there's no times listed for early release days. Guess you just have to know. There is zero communication to parents. You had better be ready to go into the school and pick up flyers. If you do go in, expect to be confronted by an extremely rude office assistant. Truly I don't blame her. You can't expect ONE SINGLE PERSON to handle every person and phone call that comes in. Just one. For a K-8 school.

I thought it looked ok and people seemed nice. I feel regretful my child wasted a year of his life here. Parents who think this school is nice have clearly not seen what a nice school is like. Close Quote
