Summary

C Wayne Collier Elementary is a public elementary school in Hope Mills, North Carolina, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 505 students. The school is part of the Cumberland County Schools district, which is ranked 144 out of 242 districts in the state.

C Wayne Collier Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom half of North Carolina elementary schools, with proficiency rates in Math and Reading that are 5-15 percentage points lower than the district and state averages. The school's performance is particularly weak for certain student subgroups, such as White, Gifted and Talented, and Military Connected students. However, the school's African American and Hispanic student subgroups perform relatively better, ranking in the top 50% of North Carolina elementary schools in some years.

The school's high poverty concentration, with over 99% of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, is significantly higher than the nearby schools, which range from 40% to 99.5% free/reduced lunch eligibility. This high poverty concentration may be a contributing factor to the school's overall academic underperformance, especially when compared to higher-performing schools like Stoney Point Elementary and E Melvin Honeycutt Elementary, which consistently rank in the top 25% of North Carolina elementary schools.

Open Quote My children have been at this school for two years now and we are probably going to be here for at least another two years. I have had no problems out of this school and I find that the staff, including the principal, are very personable and easy to work with. I have always had my questions answered in a timely manner and I have interviewed the principal as well as a few teachers and I believe their goals of turning this school around will be accomplished in a few years. I personally work with both of my children on a daily basis and they are achieving beyond my expectations. I can thank the teachers for their hard work and dedication to the students. Close Quote

Open Quote My child has been is this school now for 4 years and it is not very impressive. The school has failed statetesting the last few years. Since then they have moved or retire some teachers and principles in the surroundingschools. I am hoping with the new teachers and principle they will start to enforce school code of conduct and work ethic. Alot of the teachers are new or returning for their second year. Some of the one's that have been there for awhile now seem as though they always have something other to do then teach. i do help and work with my child. I do not expect them to be babysitters I do however expect them to be open to meeting and working along side the parents to better the education of the child. It just doesn't seems as the teachers are always willing to do so. Close Quote
