Summary

Park Center Ib World School is a public magnet high school serving grades 9-12 in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, with a total enrollment of 1,991 students. As part of the Osseo Public School District, which is ranked 267 out of 446 districts in the state, Park Center Ib World School has been designated as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, offering the rigorous IB Diploma Programme.

While Park Center Ib World School's IB designation is a potential strength, the school's academic performance consistently ranks in the bottom half of Minnesota high schools, with significantly lower proficiency rates on state assessments compared to the state and district averages. The school's graduation rate, though improving, remains below state and district levels, and its dropout rate is higher. The school's student population is highly diverse, with a large percentage of minority and economically disadvantaged students, which may present unique challenges in providing the necessary resources and support for these students to succeed academically.

Interestingly, the nearby schools within the Osseo Public School District, such as Alternative Learning Center Senior High and 279Online Learning Program 9-12, also struggle with low academic achievement and similar demographic profiles. However, the charter school Sage Academy Charter School, located about 1.5 miles away, has slightly better academic performance and a lower percentage of economically disadvantaged students. The schools in the neighboring Brooklyn Center Community Schools district, such as Insight School Of Minnesota and Brooklyn Center Early College Academy, also face similar academic and demographic challenges.

Open Quote I am a parent proud to send my daughter to Park Center. I am sad that the reputation keeps people from wanting to send their kids here even though if they talked to families they would find out that it is a great school. We are so impressed with everything from the quality and engaged teachers to the music programs. You can tell that the staff at that school love their school and love their students. I wish people weren't scared of diversity. It just enriches the experiences of all. Close Quote

Open Quote Unfortunately, Park Center's poor reputation precedes itself. I'm a parent in the district with two elementary age children. I would not send them there in particular because of the poor academic standing and athletic sports limitations. Brooklyn Park needs to emphasis changing this school's reputation by raising the standards in this school. Close Quote
