Summary

Northshore High School in Slidell, LA, is a large public high school serving 1,518 students in grades 9-12 within the highly-rated St. Tammany Parish school district, where about 35% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. This school stands out for its consistent high performance, earning a 4-star rating for the past decade and ranking 40th out of 325 schools statewide (88th percentile) for the 2025-2026 school year, making it a top choice for families in the area.

What truly sets Northshore apart is its exceptional support for all students, particularly those with special needs, where it ranks in the 95th percentile (5 stars)—a stark contrast to nearby schools like Salmen High School and Slidell High School, which do not provide subgroup data for this population. Academically, Northshore outperforms its city peers by a wide margin: it scores an average of 30 percentage points higher than Salmen (e.g., 82% proficient in Geometry vs. 29%) and 17 points higher than Slidell High. Even compared to the strong Lakeshore High School, Northshore matches or exceeds key areas like Algebra I (82% vs. N/A) and Geometry (82% vs. 85%), despite Lakeshore having a higher overall state ranking. This creates a clear "Slidell Divide," where Northshore is a high-performing outlier just 2-3 miles from lower-performing schools, suggesting its success is driven by strong school culture and leadership.

Beyond test scores, Northshore excels in keeping students engaged, with a chronic absenteeism rate of 19.7%—significantly better than Slidell High (32.4%), Salmen (30.0%), and Pearl River High School (36.3%)—and below district and state averages. Its graduation rate of 85.7% is slightly above the state average, and its dropout rate of 3.1% is on a downward trend. The school also shows broad-based excellence, ranking in the 89th percentile for White students and 88th for Male students, with a notable strength in serving African American students (92nd percentile). While Hispanic students rank lower (64th percentile), this highlights a targeted opportunity for improvement. Overall, Northshore offers a stable, high-quality education with strong support systems, making it a standout choice in the Slidell area.

Open Quote I am currently a sophomore at Northshore High. I love this school because it really is challenging and these teachers are excellent. I am in honors classes and they can b difficult, but that gives me the oppurtunity to learn more. I would definitely send my kid to Northshore or attend Northshore if I were you! Close Quote

Open Quote This school brings the better of every individual to their highest potential. They have a very strong discipline system that is not used very often as the children at this school are well behaved. The academics are wonderful, and they after school activities can keep any child in need of something to do busy.

Great school, if you're looking for one and this is in your district... Get right on it! Close Quote
