Summary

Ray St. Pierre Academy for Advanced Studies is a public elementary school (PK-5) in Westwego, LA, serving 354 students within the Jefferson Parish school district. This school is a true standout, consistently earning a 5-star rating and ranking 6th out of 690 elementary schools in Louisiana for the 2025-2026 school year, placing it in the top 1% statewide. Its academic performance dramatically outpaces nearby schools, with 95% of students proficient in math compared to just 44% at Ella C. Pittman Elementary School and 43% at Judge Lionel R. Collins Elementary School.

What makes Ray St. Pierre particularly remarkable is its success across all student groups. The school has achieved 100% proficiency in 3rd-grade English Language Arts for two consecutive years, and its low-income students rank in the 99th percentile statewide. This is especially impressive given that the school's free/reduced lunch rate has risen to 45.76%, yet performance remains exceptional. In contrast, neighboring schools like Isaac G Joseph Elementary School and Lincoln School for the Arts struggle with proficiency rates below 50% and chronic absenteeism rates above 30%.

The school also boasts exceptionally low chronic absenteeism at just 7.3%, compared to the district average of 21.5% and rates as high as 38.4% at nearby Isaac G Joseph. While Audubon Charter School in New Orleans shows comparable high performance, Ray St. Pierre's achievement is even more notable given its location in a lower-performing district and its higher percentage of economically disadvantaged students. For families seeking a proven academic powerhouse in the Westwego area, Ray St. Pierre Academy represents an extraordinary opportunity for educational excellence.

Open Quote former student here, this school is not for kids that cry for everything. The teachers... are mostly toxic and are the reason I don't really talk today. The principal is very sweet and efficient. You will have long-lasting education and long-lasting friends if you go here. Close Quote

Open Quote I think the teachers need to focus more on actually teaching the students to understand the techniques of the curriculum before moving onto new material and STOP teaching them to only memorize things, that's not teaching. They will learn something on Monday, quizzed on Tuesday and on to something new on Wednesday, that's not effective and I'd like to see this changed. The principal needs to be replaced as well she is the most cold, non passionate, non-engaging person that I have ever met for an elementary principal. She is not engaged with her students, they don't know her well at all, the only time they are engaged is if they are sent to her office for being in trouble, I've seen and heard her being a bully towards her teachers which explains the extremely high turnover rate which in my opinion causes some of the teachers to carry the same mentality towards students, some of them are just down right mean!! The homework load is extreme and necessary. I HATE IT!! Close Quote
