Open Quote What I’ve learned about reading reviews on schools are this: if your child excels in school, that school receives a good review, if your child struggles, that school receives a negative review (from a parents point of view). Now saying that, last year, my step daughter was in the second grade at Winfield Elementary, and she struggled. She would come home with her homework everyday and I would sit with her and re-teach her everything she was taught that day. Yes, she does have trouble paying attention. Even when I would go over it with her, she still had trouble. I basically did her homework for her every night. I would have meetings with the teacher telling her that she was struggling, and that my husband and I wanted her to repeat the 2nd grade. However, it wasn’t up to us. Because her grades weren’t “that bad” they said it wasn’t up to us and that she graduated onto the third. Fast forward to the third grade, she’s failing! I check her grades online everyday, and I’ve noticed how the school are “so great” here in crown point...THEY DON’T LET THEM FAIL! not by helping them, but by giving her credit for work she never turned in to raise one grade to a D! “student was givin a missing assignment grade which was a 0% for not turning in this assignment I changed that to a 51% which is still an F. This moved her grade up.” The teacher gave her 51 points for something she didn’t turn in! She also exempted an F so she will get a B in one subject, and let her hand in late work a month late! Now if I were a parent of an A student I would be mad that my child tries hard and works for their grades, and they’re giving credit to failing students, so that the school/teacher can look good!...let me also add that not one time did the teacher ever contact me in concern over her student! I am not happy with Jerry Ross! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
