Summary

Randall Middle School in Lithia, FL, is a high-performing public school serving 1,373 students in grades 6-8 within the Hillsborough district, and it consistently ranks among the top 10% of all middle schools in Florida with a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger. This school stands out dramatically from its neighbors: while most nearby schools rank in the bottom 20% of the state, Randall is ranked 113th out of 1,216 Florida middle schools, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts averaging over 80% across all grades—far above the next closest school, Barrington Middle School, which averages around 64%. In math, Randall's 8th-grade proficiency hits an exceptional 90%, and its advanced coursework scores in Algebra 1 (99%) and Geometry (100%) are near-perfect, showcasing a culture of high achievement that has been sustained for over a decade.

One of the most telling indicators of Randall's success is its remarkably low chronic absenteeism rate of just 16.0%, which is roughly half the district and state average of 31.3%. This contrasts sharply with nearby schools like Eisenhower Middle School, which has a staggering 52.9% chronic absenteeism rate. Even within the same town of Lithia, just 3.11 miles away, Barrington Middle School has a 30.5% absenteeism rate, highlighting how Randall's engaged student body and supportive environment drive its performance. Interestingly, Randall spends the least per student ($8,469) among its comparison group, while Burnett Middle School, which spends the most ($12,078 per student), ranks in the bottom 11% of the state—proving that funding alone doesn't determine success.

A universal challenge across all schools in the area is a noticeable dip in 7th-grade math proficiency, with Randall dropping from 82% in 6th grade to 52% in 7th grade before rebounding to 90% in 8th grade. This pattern appears in every nearby school, suggesting a systemic curriculum hurdle rather than a school-specific issue. For parents, Randall Middle School offers a proven track record of excellence, low absenteeism, and strong academic outcomes that far exceed those of its peers, making it a standout choice in the region.

Open Quote This school is pathetic. Not a very single-parent friendly place. Most of the staff is extremely lazy & inattentive. No one there takes ownership for any responsibilities. The so-called athletics department is the worst. The coaches are disorganized and believe in the criticism approach rather than the compliment for trying approach. The PE coaches do not preplan for after school activities and do not communicate to parents or the students. Their website still has information from last year. The 6 graders are treated like dirt as if they're an inconvenience to the school for being there. The 6 graders are discriminated and bullied by the staff and faculty members. The cafeteria staff members are rude and actually harass students. The school is run like a business. If it means money they’ll send fliers and emails and voicemails but otherwise the parents and students are left in the dark. The school does not provide any safety for the students involved in any after school activities. The teachers complain all the time about how many students they have and that the subject they are teaching is not their primary subject. Stay away. Stay away. Stay Away if you can. Close Quote
