Summary

Fishhawk Creek Elementary School in Lithia, FL, is a high-performing public school serving 921 students in grades PK through 5 within the Hillsborough School District, and it consistently ranks among the top 8% of elementary schools in Florida.

This school stands out for its exceptional academic consistency and strong community engagement. Fishhawk Creek has never ranked below the 92nd percentile in the state over the past decade, earning a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger every year. Its math performance is particularly impressive, with proficiency rates of 81% in 3rd grade, 84% in 4th grade, and 85% in 5th grade—more than 20 percentage points above the district average. The school also boasts an exceptionally low chronic absenteeism rate of just 13.5%, which is less than half the district and state averages. This metric, combined with a favorable student-teacher ratio of 14.9:1, points to a supportive school culture and strong family involvement. While its 5th-grade science scores are excellent at 79% proficient, they are slightly lower than nearby Valrico Lake Advantage Academy (85%) and Bevis Elementary (84%), suggesting a potential area for growth.

Fishhawk Creek is part of a remarkable cluster of high-performing schools in the Lithia/Valrico area, including Stowers Elementary (90th percentile) and Bevis Elementary (98th percentile). This concentration of excellence highlights a community with strong parental involvement and effective school leadership. Notably, Fishhawk Creek achieves top-tier results while spending $10,769 per student, which is less than several lower-performing schools in the district. This efficiency contrasts sharply with Navigator Academy of Leadership Valrico, a charter school with a low poverty rate but mediocre performance (45th percentile) and a high chronic absenteeism rate of 30.6%, demonstrating that low poverty alone does not guarantee high performance. Overall, Fishhawk Creek remains a premier choice for families seeking a consistently excellent elementary education.

Open Quote Believe me when I say, the reason why this school has the A rating is they teach the kids to test and not to learn. If you have a child with any kind of learning disability, please don't even consider this school. We come from out of state and this school throws out the word retention like no other. We moved to the area specifically for the school and I feel like I have failed my children by putting them in a school such as Fishhawk. The teachers don't care, nor does the principal. Instead of reassuring us, the school is doing everything they can to help to make sure my kids succeed, I was pretty much told, this is the way it is, that I can "write whoever I want" and my child is not going to have much success on the FSA at his level (the test they teach the kids to pass -hence their A rating which is how they get funded and teachers bonuses). Absolute worst decision I've ever made putting my kids in this school. Close Quote
