This suggests that the Hillsborough School District may need to implement targeted interventions and resource allocation strategies to support the improvement of Giunta Middle School and other underperforming schools in the district.

Open Quote School does not appear to care about the students. Administration does not forward transcripts. Administration does not return calls/voicemails. Administration turns a blind eye to bullying. Have had to call Area Superintendant multiple times to get results yet the administration of the school has not changed. Called more than 20 times to get information over the Summer about Florida Virtual School (FVS) due to moving. No call back. Enrolled student at new school and 3 months in they still had not sent the transcripts to new school causing student to be placed in wrong classes for more than the first quarter of the year. New school has sent request for transcripts multiple times and it took me calling the Area 5 Superintendant's office to FINALLY get results. Entire administration of this school needs to be fired. School is rated D. Last good score was 2010. If you have a choice, stay away from this school. Close Quote

Open Quote I don't wonder this school has such a low rating -

Sixth graders at Giunta Middle School were asked to answer this --

The “Lifeboat Test,” as it’s being called, presents a hypothetical situation where a ship is sinking with 15 passengers–and the student must pick 9 of them to be saved in the lifeboat.

The list includes: a black guy, a white guy, a Hispanic woman, a rabbi, an ex-convict, a guy doctor, a girl doctor, Justin Bieber, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump, among others.

Many parents were shocked that politicians–like Donald Trump and Barack Obama–made the list, and that children would have to choose whether or not to let them die.

But parents were also concerned that, with the short descriptions of people, it encourages racism–how are they supposed to judge whether “a black guy” or “a white guy” should be saved?

“My child is 11,” a parent says about her daughter. “How is she supposed to pick people based off of what they’re saying? To her, everybody matters. Everybody should have a chance. They didn’t do anything wrong. Everybody deserves to be saved.”

The school district, however, disagreed. They stood behind the Lifeboat Test as allowing for “really great conversation” in the classroom – despite parental shock and horror.

DISGUSTING and PERVERSE! This school should be closed down. Close Quote
