Summary

Coconut Palm Elementary School in Miramar, FL, is a mid-sized public school serving 511 students in grades PK through 5 within the Broward County School District, and it has recently achieved a 4-star rating after years of steady improvement.

This school stands out for its exceptional 4th-grade math program, where 89% of students were proficient in the 2025-2026 school year—17 points higher than the district average and the highest score among all nearby schools, including top performers like Somerset Academy Miramar South and Pembroke Pines Charter Elementary School. This "4th-grade math anomaly" suggests a highly effective teacher or program that the school could replicate in other grades. Overall, Coconut Palm has shown a dramatic upward trend, climbing from the 33rd percentile statewide in 2021 to the 76th percentile in 2026, a more sustained improvement than most traditional public schools in the area. However, its 5th-grade science proficiency (63%) is only average for the district, lagging behind neighbors like Silver Palms Elementary School (77%) and Lakeside Elementary School (76%).

A key area of concern is chronic absenteeism, which at 29.3% is significantly higher than nearby high-performing charter schools like Somerset Academy Miramar South (0.0%) and Somerset Academy Elementary (Miramar Campus) (9.2%). This likely holds the school back from even greater academic success. On a positive note, the school is achieving strong results with moderate spending ($14,796 per student), outperforming some schools that spend more, such as Silver Shores Elementary School ($20,191). The percentage of students eligible for free or reduced lunch has also dropped sharply from 62.6% to 47% in just two years, reflecting a demographic shift in the attendance zone. For parents, Coconut Palm offers a promising, improving environment with a standout math program, but it needs to address attendance and science instruction to compete with the exceptional charter schools in its neighborhood.

Open Quote Not a good school not challenging the children and the teachers fail to have good parent teacher communication about progress and tools that could help your child. Administration hides some at things from parents is insane. The teachers dismiss the children at dismissal time and some of them walk back inside the school leaving the children unattended. Awful place Close Quote
