Summary

Saturn Elementary School is a public elementary school in Cocoa, Florida, serving 587 students in grades PK-6. The school is part of the Brevard District, which is ranked 23 out of 67 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite its relatively high spending per student, ranging from $10,250 to $14,444, and a lower student-teacher ratio compared to nearby schools, Saturn Elementary has consistently struggled with key performance metrics. The school has high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 19.5% to 31.4%, which are significantly higher than the Brevard District and state averages. Academically, Saturn Elementary's proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Math are 30-50% lower than the district and state averages. When compared to nearby schools like Audubon Elementary, Lewis Carroll Elementary, and Tropical Elementary, Saturn Elementary's performance is consistently lower by 20-40 percentage points.

The high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Saturn Elementary, ranging from 75.64% to 81.18%, suggests that the school serves a predominantly low-income population. This may contribute to the school's challenges in academic performance and high chronic absenteeism rates. Over the past several years, Saturn Elementary's statewide ranking has declined, falling from 913 out of 2,112 Florida elementary schools in 2016-2017 to 1,919 out of 2,258 schools in 2024-2025, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. Addressing these issues will be crucial for improving student outcomes at Saturn Elementary School.

Open Quote Saturn is a wonderful school! They take care of all aspects of the student. If there is a child that needs shoes, a winter jacket or food for the weekend they take care of it! As a parent, I feel welcome to be there and to be involved. I like that I can walk my children to their classrooms each morning.
I like that they listen to my input each year with classroom placement of my children in addition to all their ways of determining who goes where.
I like the principle and his secretary Ms. Sally. I feel like she really listens and cares abt my concerns with action following.
The PreK team is amazing. And have been more than happy with each teacher they have been placed with since.
I wish the school counselor didn't have ADHD herself and was a bit more attentive when speaking to her instead of in twenty different places. But hey she's what this particular school population needs. Thank God our dealings with her are limited. Otherwise I would have to hold her down and yell "Pay attention!"
Mrs Morley the front office lady is HORRIBLE!!! There is NO kindness or Compassion in this woman! Hate having to deal with her. The book keeper Jennifer, I have watched on more than one occasion get the kids all excited and then not liking the out come of what she's done yell at them to calm down. You reap what you sew lady!
My children are known and well liked by the staff, are getting what they need educationally and feel that they are safe when going to school, which is really all a parent can ask for! Close Quote

Open Quote I have enjoyed my children going to this school and they have done very well with their grades. The FCAT is a pain and the school does focus on it but that is not the fault of the school. All schools in Florida are like this now because of NCLB. Ask any of the teachers there they hate it as much as anyone else. I enjoy to volunteer in the classroom and get to see a lot of what is going on, all I'm going to say is the children do misbehave but this is usually not because of the school but the home environment. The teachers Ive dealt with, I have enjoyed, as long as a parent stays in contact and shows interest the teacher will do the same. I am studying to be a teacher and have found out that teaching is a lot more than just educating the children in the classrooms there is so much more that goes on behind the scenes. The inequality in our school system is apparent but Saturn works very hard to make sure each student has an education. Close Quote

Open Quote We never get to see if the teacher could TEACH. Her job as we saw it, was to be a bad behavior consution.
Something seriously needs to be to correct the unruly students. the REFOCUS program could work in an average environment. This school is anything but average! Close Quote

Open Quote If it isn't on the FCAT, your child isn't going to learn it. My children have had their questions rebuffed and actually have been told, "You don't have to know that, because it's not on the FCAT." Here I am, trying to teach my children to think for themselves and to aspire for something greater than mediocrity, and the staff of this school is determined to keep everyone exactly the same. All children do not learn the same way, and it is unfair to keep the smarter kids back (or to put more on the children who need extra help), all in the interest of cramming the FCAT material down their throats in time for the tests. After the FCAT, teaching screeches to a halt. There is no science class unless, you guessed it, they are in the grades that have science FCAT. With few exceptions, the teachers are close-minded and rude. The administrative staff is uncaring and unfair. If we could move, I would move for the SOLE PURPOSE of getting my children out of Saturn Elementary School. To give the school a "poor" rating is to be generous. I can't wait until I don't have to subject my children to the place any more. Close Quote
