Summary

Sundance Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Peoria, Arizona, with 601 students enrolled. The school is part of the Peoria Unified School District, which is ranked 138 out of 289 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Sundance Elementary consistently underperforms compared to the district and state in standardized test scores, with only 23-37% of students proficient in English Language Arts and Math, compared to 40-52% for the district and 36-46% for the state. The school also has particularly low performance for certain student subgroups, such as its White and Multi-racial students, who rank in the bottom 20-30% of Arizona elementary schools, and its English Language Learners and Special Education students, who rank in the top 30-40%. Additionally, Sundance Elementary has seen a steady increase in dropout rates, rising from 3.3% in 2019-2020 to 6.1% in 2022-2023, which is significantly higher than the district and state averages.

Interestingly, Copperwood School and Ira A. Murphy, which both outperform Sundance on academic measures and have higher rankings from SchoolDigger, are located less than a mile away from Sundance Elementary. This suggests that students in the Sundance attendance zone may have access to better-performing educational options nearby. Additionally, Sundance Elementary's per-student spending has fluctuated significantly over the years, which may contribute to the school's academic struggles and high dropout rates.
