Summary

Sonoran Sky Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Scottsdale, Arizona, serving 515 students in grades K-6. As part of the Paradise Valley Unified District, Sonoran Sky has consistently been one of the top-performing elementary schools in the state, maintaining a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of the past decade.

Sonoran Sky's academic performance is truly exceptional, with students consistently outperforming the district and state averages in standardized tests across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, Sonoran Sky's 5th-grade students scored 56% proficient or better in science, compared to 42% for the district and 34% for the state. The school's strong performance extends across diverse student subgroups, including female, male, and students from various racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Compared to other elementary schools in the Paradise Valley Unified District, Sonoran Sky stands out as a true standout. Nearby schools, such as North Ranch Elementary, Desert Shadows Elementary, and Desert Springs Preparatory Elementary, have lower test scores, rankings, and spending per student than Sonoran Sky. This suggests that Sonoran Sky's success may be attributed to its relatively high spending per student, low student-teacher ratio, and a learning environment that is conducive to student growth and achievement.

Open Quote My children have attended Sonoran Sky for several years. I have one child that has gone through here, and two more that still attend.

I can’t say enough good things about this school! My children all have different needs, different personalities, and have flourished. They really do foster the “individualized education” approach. No two children are alike, and the kids on the top tiers or bottom tiers tend to be looked over. Not here. The teachers have experience in recognizing students’ needs and are amazing at communicating that.

The IEP/504, reading and math specialists are all supportive and only want what is best for your child.

The leadership is also very supportive and they have an open door policy so if you have a need or question, she’ll make time for you.

The PTO is super friendly and hard working. They go above and beyond to make sure you feel welcome. They have several events, support the teachers and parents, and make sure that Sonoran Sky has what it needs, without making you feel bad if you can’t donate or volunteer.

Overall, great school! Close Quote

Open Quote My children have been at Sonoran Sky for almost 6 years. They are doing brilliantly academically and socially. I appreciate that the reading and math classes are "flex grouped" so that students are able to work at their ability level and stay with their peers. I also like the 1:1 technology ratio and the emphasis on science and engineering in the core subject areas. My son enjoys band twice a week and my daughter loves her art teacher. The administration is very open with parents and works well with teachers. The PTO is extremely active and supports a number of programs that don't exist anywhere else in Scottsdale. Close Quote
