Summary

Amboy Elementary School is a public school in North Little Rock, AR, serving 456 students from Pre-K through 5th grade as part of the North Little Rock School District.

Amboy has historically been a low-performing school, but it showed remarkable improvement from the 2024-2025 school year to 2025-2026, with proficiency rates nearly doubling across all subjects. For example, English Language Arts proficiency rose from 16.2% to 24.6%, and Science jumped from 16.2% to 31.0%. This strong upward trend sets Amboy apart from nearby schools like Boone Park Elementary School, which remained stagnant or declined. A notable strength is 5th-grade Science, where Amboy's 36.5% proficiency rate actually exceeds the district average and is the highest among several nearby schools. However, Amboy still trails top-performing district schools like Crestwood Elementary School and Lakewood Elementary School, which achieve proficiency rates more than double Amboy's despite serving a similarly disadvantaged population. The school spends $14,913 per student, which is higher than those top performers, suggesting that funding alone isn't the answer.

All students at Amboy qualify for free or reduced lunch, reflecting significant socioeconomic challenges. The school's recovery from a 0-star rating in 2024-2025 to a 1-star rating in 2025-2026 is encouraging, and families may also want to consider the nearby Friendship Aspire Academy North Little Rock Elementary, a small charter school that achieves much higher proficiency rates, particularly in Math and Science. Amboy's trajectory suggests it is actively working to improve, but it still has a long way to go to match the district's best.

Open Quote The staff is very unprofessional and inexperienced. Everything they do is unorganized, its like they just think of things to do without putting any real thought into them. This is a new nice looking school but the staff is very poor. Not all staff but majority of them are there just to collect a check it seems. If you have another school that your child can attend, I would suggest you go to a different school because the staff including the current principal do not seem to take a lot of things serious concerning the children. They are probably OK as people but poor doing their job when it comes to these children. BEWARE of this school and the North Little Rock School district Close Quote
