Academically, McAdory Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Alabama elementary schools, with proficiency rates in Math, Science, and English Language Arts that are generally lower than the Jefferson County and Alabama state averages across all grade levels. The school's performance is particularly concerning for White students and students with disabilities, who rank in the bottom 25% of Alabama elementary schools in these subgroups. Open Quote The school is very over crowded, built for around 600 students and now has well over 1000. Instead of adding on to the school, the county's solution is to add more trailers. My child is now in the 3rd grade and has only been inside the actual building her 1st grade year. Close Quote

Open Quote I put my daughters through Jeff Co schools 15 yrs ago and it was great. I withdrew my son today, a kindergarten student because of lazy and incompetent principals. If you want a good education then you should look elsewhere. Close Quote

Open Quote Why do you hold car-pick-up students ten minutes after bus students?
Are you trying to punish car-pick-up students because they don't ride the bus?
Did you have a traffic engineer re-design this current mess of after school pick-up?
Maybe nobody there ever heard "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
I picked up students there for two years and in all those times nothing ever occurred as idiotic as this wrap around maze. It is terrible. It is dysfulnctional. It is insane. Did I say idiotic. Or ridiculous?
Does somebody want to punish car pick-up students and force them to want to ride school buses? It's insane. It's inefficient.
1st day of school my student got in the car at 3:40 after I'd waited in car line for 1 1/2 hours.
2nd day my student got in the car at 3:20 after I'd waited in the car line for 55 minutes.
3rd day my student got in the car at 3:12 after I'd waited 50 minutes. Your street monitors stand around saying to be patient. It will get better. Those times may sound like "improvement in the new system." It is not! One reason is fewer cars!
Never in the two previous years of picking up my student did they ever go past five minutes past three getting in the car.
What happens when it rains -- really rains hard -- as it does in these parts -- run the students out in the rain getting wet, when previously they were protected from the elements by getting in their cars under the portico at the front.
The previous two years, students exited the front doors as cars passed under the covered drive at the same time buses loaded from the side doors. During that "bus load times" 20 to 30 cars would safely load and depart before the buses loaded and left. That makes sense. But no! Now bus students get out of school at 2:45 and car students have to wait an additional 10 minutes. None of it makes sense.
A new regime brings in a new car pick-up system whether it makes any sense or not. The new system is far far worse than anything of the two previous years that I picked up students.
Stop penalizing car students -- their school day needlessly ends after bus students. They have to wait much longer for their rides to weave through a senseless maze. Close Quote
