Carbon County School District #2

The five schools in Carbon County School District #2 serve kindergarten through grade 12, with enrollments from 66 to 166 and a mix of elementary, middle/high, and K–12 schools. Across the reported 2025–26 results, average ELA proficiency was at least 62.5%, compared with 57.3% for matching state results, while math averaged 53.0% versus 54.7% statewide. The most important takeaway is that results vary sharply by grade and subject, so no school is uniformly strongest.

Encampment K-12 School stands out in grades 5–6: its ELA and math results ranged from 76.9% to 84.6%, all above the corresponding state rates; its 100% graduation rate was also above the state’s 83.1%. HEM Junior/Senior High School was exceptional in grade 9, with at least 90% proficient in ELA versus 55.6% statewide and 64.3% in math versus 46.5%, though its grade 10 science result was 28.6%. At the low end, Saratoga Middle/High School had 22.2% proficiency in grade 9 math, 24.3 points below the state. Saratoga Elementary had 29.6% in grade 3 ELA and math; Hanna Elementary was stronger in grade 3 ELA at 58.3%, above the 55.7% state rate.

Recent changes are mixed: Hanna’s grade 5 ELA rose 46.4 points to 75.0%, while Saratoga Elementary’s grade 3 ELA fell 44.1 points and its grade 4 ELA rose 41.4. HEM’s grade 9 math improved 33.5 points to 64.3%, but its grade 10 science fell 24.7 points. SchoolDigger statewide ranking percentiles also shifted: Saratoga Middle/High moved from 78 to 37, while Hanna rose from 26 to 44. School context differs too: student-teacher ratios range from 5.6 at Hanna to 8.6 at Saratoga Middle/High, and reported free/reduced-lunch eligibility ranges from 28.1% at Saratoga Middle/High to 77.3% at Hanna; these are context, not explanations for results.
