Summary

Ashton Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-6 in Ashton, West Virginia, with 305 students. The school is part of the Mason County Schools district, which is ranked 50 out of 55 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Ashton Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom half of West Virginia elementary schools over the past decade, with a current ranking of 304 out of 355 schools and a 1-star rating. The school's academic performance is significantly lower than the state and district averages, with proficiency rates in Math and English Language Arts below the benchmarks across all grade levels. Additionally, the school struggles to support the academic achievement of various student subgroups, with rankings for female, male, white, and low socioeconomic status students all in the bottom half of the state.

While Ashton Elementary has a relatively low student-teacher ratio compared to nearby schools in the Cabell County and Putnam County school districts, its academic performance is generally lower than these higher-performing schools. The school's declining ranking and inconsistent performance across grade levels suggest the need for a comprehensive review of its instructional practices, resource allocation, and support for underperforming student groups.

Open Quote This school is years behind with the education they're giving. I'm sure they meet some kind of state or federal standards, but if they are, I don't know how. I was homeschooling my daughter in Ohio with Ecot, and when we moved and went to this school, in a matter of months, I was blown away by the poor communication skills of the teachers with the parents and by how behind the school is with their education--even when compared to homeschooling. I want to like this school, the teachers are friendly and it looks nice, but if I had a choice, I would be homeschooling my daughter again because of the poor quality of education this school provides.
