Summary:

ZIP code 53578 in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin is home to three elementary schools — Bridges Elementary (PK–2, 458 students), Grand Avenue Elementary (3–5, 396 students), and Tower Rock Elementary (PK–5, 213 students) — all part of the Sauk Prairie School District, which serves about 1,067 elementary students here and ranks 197th of 432 districts statewide.

Grand Avenue is the strongest academic performer: it scored above the state proficiency rate in all eight reported subject and grade combinations in both 2024-2025 and 2025-2026, with its best results in 4th-grade Social Studies (72.46% proficient, versus 65.51% statewide and 69.47% in the district) and 4th-grade Math (61.59%, versus 52.87% statewide). Bridges, which serves only the earliest grades and has no state test data (testing starts in 3rd grade), posts the best attendance figure in the group at 6.4% chronic absenteeism, well below both the district (14.9%) and the state (17.3%). Tower Rock is the concern: its state ranking fell from the 53rd percentile to 31st and then to the 26th percentile (1 star) over three years, and its 5th-grade Math proficiency of 23.53% is the lowest figure in the data set, far under the district (49.46%) and state (51.81%). Its chronic absenteeism of 16.0% is roughly double Bridges' rate, and its free/reduced lunch share (43.66%) is nearly double that of the other two schools.

Two things stand out for parents. First, resources do not explain the gap: Tower Rock spends the most per student ($16,582) and has the smallest classes (10.3 to 1), while Grand Avenue spends the least ($14,205) and performs best. Second, Tower Rock's results are uneven rather than uniformly weak — its 3rd graders beat the district in both ELA (61.54 vs 58.19) and Math (60.00 vs 52.84) in 2025-2026, while grades 4 and 5 fell below. With only 213 students, a single classroom can swing a school-wide percentage by double digits, so year-to-year jumps should be read as small-cohort volatility rather than proof of decline — but they are worth asking about directly.
