John Edwards Middle is a small public school in Port Edwards, Wisconsin, serving grades 5–8 with 89 students as part of the Port Edwards School District. It ranks 434th of 643 Wisconsin middle schools in 2025–2026 (33rd percentile, 2 stars), a sharp decline from its 2015–2016 peak of 90th percentile and 4 stars. Its enrollment is tiny compared with nearby schools such as Wisconsin Rapids Area Middle (943 students, about 2 miles away) and P J Jacobs Junior High in Stevens Point (roughly 700 students, about 18 miles away). With so few students per grade, a single student can shift proficiency rates by several percentage points.

The school's clearest strength is attendance. Chronic absenteeism was just 4.4% in 2024–2025 — far below the state's 17.3% and every nearby school, including 22.1% at P J Jacobs Junior High, 22.7% at Wisconsin Rapids Area Middle, and 17.5% at Alexander Middle.
