Summary

Oaklawn Elementary is a public elementary school in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, serving 410 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the Oshkosh Area School District, which is ranked 337 out of 426 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Oaklawn Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of Wisconsin elementary schools, maintaining a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger over the past decade. The school's academic performance, as measured by the Forward Exam, is significantly below the district and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 24.64% of 3rd-grade students at Oaklawn were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 36.66% in the district and 52.14% statewide. Oaklawn also has high rates of chronic absenteeism, ranging from 15.4% to 19.5% over the past few years, which is much higher than the state average.

Interestingly, Oaklawn Elementary's performance is consistently lower than the nearby Franklin Elementary, Shapiro STEM Academy, and Washington Elementary, which have significantly higher academic achievement and lower chronic absenteeism, despite still generally underperforming compared to the state. Despite the relatively high per-student spending at Oaklawn, the school has not shown any meaningful improvement over the past decade, indicating a need for more substantial interventions and support to address the underlying challenges.

Open Quote Unfortunately the Oshkosh schools do not give Oaklawn as much funding as their other schools. The building is old and the children are limited on activities due to the lack of funding. There has been a recent change in Principals, however, there is the aftermath of that now. Parents and students are of course taking the brunt force hit of that. There is lost paperwork, children not being placed in classrooms they were told to have and a lack of discipline in regards to the staff. Teachers seem to "run" the school. Looking for Parochial schools now due to their many issues. Close Quote
